”Scapes of Likeness“ is an exploration of the layered and changing nature of memory and identity, expressed through textured ceramic works. Rooted in the artist’s personal history—from childhood memories in Singapore and her family photo shop to navigating cultural displacement and being a “local foreigner” in Taiwan—the exhibition uses layered materials, abstract forms, and instruments like the cyanometer to evoke how perceptions and emotions shift over time.
The textured surfaces and layered shapes in the works reflect the buildup of experiences, feelings, and memories. These layers show how self-formation is a complex and ongoing process—sometimes complete, sometimes unresolved.
The exhibition includes silent, liminal spaces—gaps and pauses—that symbolize moments of uncertainty or unresolved memories. Inspired by ideas about dwelling and time, these spaces invite viewers to reflect on the in-between moments of understanding, where what is hidden or unclear can be just as important as what is visible.
Light, space, and reflective textures highlight depths and delicate changes in the works. The cyanometer, as a meditative tool, shows how perception and memory are always shifting—much like the sky’s hue, which changes constantly.
Ultimately, ”Scapes of Likeness“ encourages viewers to think about their own layered memories and identities. It invites reflection on how we build, hold, and transform our sense of self—an ongoing journey shaped by personal history, cultural displacement, and life‘s constant flux.
